Two of my favorites, Charco Hippie in Naguabo and Charco Prieto in Aguas Buenas/Bayamon in Puerto Rico. Fairly easy to get to, Charco Hippie charges about $5 for parking so bring cash. This isn’t really much of a trail unless you choose to climb some rocks further down. The initial trail is less than a mile long and super well marked.
Charco Prieto is a waterfall hike, typically less crowded and isn’t manned. You will see signs that say Charco Prieto leading up to the trailhead. Avoid going to the wrong trailhead which leads to someone’s private property and follow this link here. I recommend doing this trail with non-slip shoes, it can be slippery and muddy. I typically do trails of this type barefoot as it gives me better grip, but you do you! Always check conditions for that specific area before driving over as rainy days can be dangerous and not recommended. Here in Puerto Rico, it could be sunny in one area and down-pouring in another, so check conditions for the trail area specifically.
Cell service is intermittent at this trail so prepare to lose connection and preload your maps! This is a fairly short hike but I recommend downloading AllTrails to follow along and avoid getting lost. Also, all of the trails mentioned on this blog I’ve typically tracked on that app, so feel free to follow me on there. View my AllTrails profile here. 🙂
